they have an elevator that goes up to the roof from inside and they just walk onto the roof and load or unload the patient.

They put them on a litter and wheel them into the hospital, onto the elevator and to the OR.

If the helipad is on the roof.. Most likely through the service elevator to the roof, & then on down to the ER.

I would guess most hospitals dont have helipads on the roof though ,i've never worked in one that did they all had thier pads in a remote location away from the building, & they transported the patient to the ER via ambulance

Roof pads I would think r more of a Hollywood thing more than a real norm .. though they do exist in some places.. construction costs for a roof helipad would be pretty substantial

They throw them over the side and hope the nurses below will catch them.

No? Okay, how about this one then. If there is a heliport landing zone on the roof, there is also an elevator that goes to the roof level to allow the patient and EMS personnel access to the hospital. It is usually a limited access elevator to keep patients off the roof.

There is a doorway on the roof that leads into the building.

There is an emergency room door that slides open just like the ambulance entrance on the ground.
